Teen Expressive Arts Support Group

“No matter what your age or your life path, whether making art is your career or your hobby or your dream, it is not too late or too egotistical or too selfish or too silly to work on your creativity.”~ Julia Cameron

About the Project

What is an altered book?

An art object that has been created from an existing, printed book. The book is altered through whatever means and media the artist chooses such as using the book’s pages as a canvas on which to apply paint, collage, drawing, or rubber stamping.

Some altered book artists choose to work within a certain theme, while others work with the original contents of the book to create art.

What to Expect

This group will combine talking and group check in’s with goofy games, movement/stretch breaks, short expressive arts activities, and time for art making!

Teens will be expected to continue to work on their altered book throughout the week. They will be given creativity prompts meant to inspire their work and will be discussed in each session and sent through email.

Teens will also be assigned a “buddy” and empowered to check in with each other over the course of the group. Teens will be given support for these check ins that will help them to practice active listening and communication skills, responsibility and accountability.
