Psychotherapy

What Is Psychotherapy?

The word “psychotherapy” is made up of two Greek terms: psyche (soul) and therapeia (serve). Thus, psychotherapy means “to serve the soul,” or to care for it. Psychotherapists are trained professionals who assist people through the challenges related to the experience of being human. From healing wounds, relational issues, stress, uncertainty, grief, fear, even excitement and joy, therapists help people process their thoughts, emotions, behaviors and life circumstances to relieve distress and come into a fulfilling and soulful life.

Psychotherapy can support: emotional, social, relational, psychological, physiological, mental and spiritual struggles. Thus, therapy is a powerful resource available to aid and guide people in their healing and self discovery.

How I Work

In approaching our work together, I believe in the healing power of creativity, collaboration, transparency and individualized care. Through skillful listening and creating a safe and supportive place for healing, I use a client centered, integrative approach.

Integrative: I believe in customizing care by drawing from various modalities, tools and techniques to support the wants, needs and desires of my clients. I hold a holistic view of you and your situation, incorporating mind, body, spirit, as well as considering community and cultural contexts. I specialize in Jungian Depth Psychology and Expressive Arts Therapy. I am also a proponent of somatic psychotherapy and often incorporate mindfulness and somatic techniques to help clients heal from the inside out.

There are many tools out there. Together, we will find what works for you.

Online Therapy

I see clients located in California & Hawaii. Services are offered online through Teletherapy (video or phone sessions). Much of what we would do in person, in an office setting, can be adapted to this format. Online therapy is flexible, decreases our carbon footprint by requiring less travel, and has the benefit of being able to do deep work in the comfort of your home or chosen location. I am also mindful about screen fatigue and will work with you to have an embodied and satisfying online therapy experience. I am happy to discuss the pros and cons of using this format to determine if it is right for you. I use HIPAA compliant software. Please call for more information.
