About

Naomi Kimmelman headshot

I became a psychotherapist because I love people and I am awed and humbled by the range of our human experience. I draw upon my passion for art, psychology, spirituality and nature to support individuals, couples and families to engage in authentic and deep work. Working with a range of ages from children to elders, I find that each stage of life comes with a unique set of challenges & gifts.

I believe that in bringing consciousness and intentionality to the important moments in our lives we can create a life that is utterly profound, beautiful, deep, connected and meaningful. Helping people to recognize, reflect on, integrate, heal and celebrate these moments is what I do.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Holistic Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis in Depth Psychotherapy from John F. Kennedy University. I received my BA in Psychology with a minor in Art from Sonoma State University. I previously served as a member of the board for the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA), specifically on the Student and New Professionals Committee, and I have been a presenter for the International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD).

I am committed to the destigmatization of mental health, the dissemination of tools available within the evolving field of psychology and contributing to a society in which quality wisdom and services can be made accessible to all people.

When I’m not seeing clients, I love spending time in nature, hiking, sharing delicious meals with friends and family, making art, writing and engaging in other creative processes.

Experience

Children, Adolescents & Teenagers

I have worked with youth for over thirteen years in many capacities from being a nanny, an after school enrichment art teacher, rites of passage guide and psychotherapist in individual outpatient, group and residential settings.

Adults & Older Adults

I have worked with adults and older adults in outpatient, residential and hospital settings, working through such topics as divorce, career change, relationship stress, grief/loss, chronic illness and injury, the challenges of parenting and supporting aging parents.

I had the honor of working at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco with residents living with Alzheimer’s Disease and supporting their families. In addition, I’ve worked in a Secondary Acute Care unit, Medical Surgery and Subacute units with adults recovering and living with serious illnesses and injuries. There, I also led expressive arts therapy and spiritual support groups.
